Arlington and Fairfax Counties no longer allow glass jars and bottles in the residential curbside recycling bins. Why the change?

Glass also causes more wear and strain on sorting machines and other recycling equipment.

What now? Arlington and Fairfax counties now provide drop off locations for residents, usually distinguished by their large purple bins . Fairfax County also launched a reuse and recycle pilot program, using ground glass for local paving projects.
